Oaks: The Scope of Trauma and the Church's Response

April 3, 2022 1:00pm

Address: High Point Church, 7702 Old Sauk Road, Madison, WI US 53717

Join us for our OAKS ministry spring training event.
The awareness of trauma in popular culture is becoming more and more prevalent, but do you know how it impacts people within your ministry? Anxiety, depression, addiction, relational conflict—issues we encounter regularly in ministry—can all be related to underlying unresolved trauma. What can the church do to recognize and respond with clarity and compassion to the needs of people who are in the process of healing from trauma? At this event, we'll hear from Sue Gruen, LCSW, about the scope and impact of trauma, and then we'll discuss with pastors Nic Gibson and Jeff King how the realities of trauma inform the ministry of the church.

What you’ll get at this training:

  1. Knowledge about the long-term effects of trauma to help you make sense of why people in your ministry may seem chronically and spiritually stuck.
  2. Theological clarity about the psychological ramifications of trauma and its effects on human beings created in the image of God.
  3. Practical perspectives and examples for walking alongside people who have experienced trauma and its long-term effects.
  4. Resources and connections to support people in the process of healing.

If you are interested in becoming an Oaks volunteer, you'll learn more about roles and next steps at this event.
